How Praying In Victory Was Written
In 1993, my job was to clean the pastoral offices at our church. As it so happened, our pastor was teaching sermons on Praying The Word, Praying in Agreement, and Redeeming The Time.
I quickly noticed that vacuuming and dusting every day was a tedious job, so I decided that praying while I was cleaning would be a good way to pass the time.
I went home every evening and started looking up Bible Scriptures. I wrote them down on a small piece of paper that I tucked into the pocket of my smock. I prayed them out loud while vacuuming, because no one could hear me anyway, but
I noticed after a couple of days that they began taking the shape of a prayer, in the form of the pure Word of God.
I added a new Bible Scripture every night. The first prayer, Praying
for our Pastors came about this way. It took a month to complete this prayer.
The First Prayers
The next month, one of our pastor's children got hurt, and I realized that we also needed to cover the pastor's family in prayer. So I started looking for Scriptures for Praying for the Pastor's Family. These prayers are not only for the pastor's family but for your family too. We are all pastors in a way, aren't we? I realized I also needed to cover my own children in prayer, and Praying For The Children was created. When I read it though, I realized that all children could easily be included.
Becoming a Prayer Leader
At the beginning of the summer, I volunteered to be a prayer leader in our church's prayer room on Wednesday nights, and I needed to learn how to pray for the Government, Nations, Jerusalem, Missionaries, and for the Church. This was not an easy task, each subject took a month to complete.
It Becomes a Book
By September, I was satisfied that I had enough prayers compiled, that they could easily be copied and passed out to the congregation. I went to the pastor's wife and asked for permission to do this, so we could all be praying the Word in agreement.
She said, yes, but also asked me to write a
Prayer For Relationships."
This request delayed printing for 6 weeks, but during this time I was also gathering Bible Scriptures to compile a page of Scriptures for Healing, Encouragement, Needs, and also a page of Bible Scriptures that promises us that God does hear our prayers, and will answer them. It is called Prayer Promises. These four topics were the most asked for prayer requests while I was a prayer leader.
